Symphony Number One plays The Promised Burning: Music by Adams, Posner, Omiccioli

Symphony Number One closes its inaugural season with John Adams’s Son of Chamber Symphony. Adams puts a new spin on some of his earlier music in this rambunctious, high-octane work for chamber orchestra.
Also on the program is a World Premiere by our Call for Score winner Andrew Posner and our Honorable Mention work, Nick Omiccioli’s [fuse]. We hope you enjoy Symphony Number One’s final concert of the season!

Buying Into Baltimore Homebuying Fair

Thirty homebuyers will each cash in on a $5,000 incentive — a total of $150,000 for down payments and closing costs in Baltimore City — at Live Baltimore and Baltimore Housing’s Buying Into Baltimore Homebuying Fair on Saturday, May 14, starting at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and expanding across the city via tours.

Ready to buy? Just exploring? Anyone at any stage of the homebuying process is invited to meet representatives from neighborhood associations, consult with lenders and get advice from counseling agencies at this twice-yearly event. There will be 20 workshops, related to every step in the homebuying process, including “Preparing Your Credit for
Homeownership” and “Understanding Your Settlement Charges and Loan Terms.”

With the help of the experts at Buying Into Baltimore, attendees will learn how to make the most of homebuying incentive programs such as Vacants to Value, Healthy Neighborhoods Loans, and historic tax credits.

The event starts at Poly but will quickly expand throughout Baltimore to Lake Walker, Union Square and Highlandtown. A shuttle bus will take visitors to these charming neighborhoods where they will take a self-guided cell phone tour, explore open houses, and visit local businesses and restaurants.

More than 300 attended September’s Buying Into Baltimore fair and early registrations for the May 14 event indicate another large turnout.

Admission to Buying in Baltimore is $10 with online registration at LiveBaltimore.com and $15 at the door.

RuutInvoke-1

Baltimore Musician, Ruut, Debuts New Album This Weekend

Ruut and Invoke played for the first time together on Thursday night in Loyola’s coffee house. The concert was hosted by the school’s radio station, WLOY, as part of a weekly entertainment series. During the performance, Ruut debuted her new album, Untold Stories, in it’s entirety for the lucky audience.

It’s almost impossible to imagine that the two acts are just now performing together. The first time, live, collaboration was phenomenal. Ruut and Invoke displayed a innate, musical friendship that captured the audience from the very beginning.

Untold Stories is full of Ruut’s honest, heart-wrenching lyrics. Though she joked about only writing dramatic pieces, her work is much more than that. She writes from raw experiences -like the realization of how short life is – and pairs those emotions with her powerful talent on the piano. Invoke’s compositions are cinematic, and add just the right amount of musical narrative to round out each song into a well-polished, unified work of art.

If you missed the performance last night, you can catch Ruut and Invoke for Untold Stories’ official release on Saturday, March 12th. They will play from the new album at Rams Head Onstage in Annapolis, Maryland. The doors open at 12:00 PM and the show begins at 1:00. Tickets are available at http://www.ramsheadonstage.com/event/1058649-ruut-string-quartet-invoke-annapolis. Be sure to catch the breath-taking collaboration before they leave for their tour on the West Coast. You won’t want to pass this up!

KIRK-KENNEDY-BIRTHDAY-INVITATION

” Babies Bring, ……………….BALTIMORE BACK “

Headline : ” Babies Bring, …………………BALTIMORE BACK ”

Undoubtedly, all Inner Cites via The United States share the common denominators of : Poverty ; Unemployment ; Slums; Incarceration; Ignorance; and Crime . With that said, Baltimore, MD as its counterparts , holds the exact, and or , similar stereotypes held by its ” Cousin Chaotic Cities ” . The riots which transpired last April, adjacent to the hundreds of reported homicides via the past year , certainly fueled and injected additional negative perceptions, which further escalated its deplorable image !
Its a cumbersome task, attempting to change the perception, brand, and logo of one’s Home Town ; coincidentally, its extremely difficult when sarcastic, rude, and cruel statements are sadly valid and true ! And, it is the epitome of hurtful if one was raised within the vicinity, utilizing its Water; Sewage; Public Education ; and Arts Systems to assist with one’s fulfillment and success . Therefore, instead of accepting the critical, mean, and obnoxious remarks implied about Baltimore, one particular individual , took it upon herself to modify ” Baltimore’s Blues ” and perceptions .

Traci Thomas, Age 50, is the CEO and Venture Capitalist of NTT Management Group, Inc – San Francisco, CA. She was educated, raised, and resided within Baltimore City with her late Grandparents Frank and Virginia Thomas, Sr within the 1970s, 80s, and 90s respectively. Moreover, she graduated Magna Cum Laude; National Honor Society ; Dean’s List ; and Phi Theta Kappa from Batimore County Community College – Catonsville, MD ; then, continued at Harvard University- Cambridge, MA majoring within Economics . Ultimately, she refuses to accept the corrupt and confused culture of such a familiar and loved location from which she was reared, despite the opinions of so many infinite International Critics !

After losing her father this past December, Traci literally experienced falling into a New World, via a crash landing at 3000 Miles Per Hour, composed of sadness; shock; grief; and loss. She thought best to participate in a New Beginning, such that she could survive mentally and emotionally! What better, innovative, and imaginable way, than with that of : Children

Traci thought to reinvent and rejuvenate Herself and Baltimore simultaneously , by way of : Small Businesses , Suppliers ; Venues; Tourism; and Transportation by financing a ” Kirk-Kennedy ” Party; theoretically, Kirk is her 2 Year Old baby cousin . It’s within everyone’s best benefit to engineer a ” Baby Bash, ” which would host 300 Guests, whereas all would engage in complimentary: Rides; Food; Prizes; Arcades; Music; Theater; Arts ; Crafts and Slides to be held at The Palladium – Baltimore, MD ! Furthermore, her Colleagues; Associates; and Friends from other cities, nationwide, are invited to the event, such that they may witness ” Baltimore’s Best or Better ” , and return home with another and more significant description of the city ! Somehow, the metaphor of : Starting Over From Scratch , deems appropriate , as children deliver and produce such positive, powerful , and productive energy. Additionally, it seems via the strategy of assisting ” Baltimore Businesses ” via their contributions to the party; ironically, ” Pain ” is by all means, transformed into ” Power ” .

Lastly, despite so much slander stating that Baltimorians are barbaric , lazy , uneducated , and or, imbeciles; coincidentally, there are many individuals , such as or greater than Traci , who are intelligent, brave, and courageous enough to go into hell; then, they creatively know how to ………………RAISE IT !
